chmod is right

Your script use the /opt/zenoss/libexec path for http_check command,

And for several zenoss installation path for http_check is different.

Another problem, Your zenpack with several virtuals hosts on the same server doesn't works.

I have added monitoring URL, but I can't see anything in graphs. I have checked both if /opt/zenoss/libexec/check_http exist and if check-http-wrapper.sh is executable both are fine.

What is correct way to debug this issue if I run zenmodeler on that device it doesn't seem to be checking zenHttpComponent.

Try running:

zencommand -v10 -d devicename

and examine the output. if there's not enough there to go on, and assuming the command is running, the shell command from the Zenpack (using the check-http-wrapper.sh) will be displayed with the arguments you're using. Copy that command and paste it to the command line, and see if that works.

If that fails as well, try running:

sh -xv /path/to/check-http-wrapper.sh arg1 arg2

(the same thing again but with sh -xv in front).

Hopefully these steps will provide enough info to determine what's happening (or not happening).

There is an "IP" property that is editable on the Details Pane once the component is created. Try changing that to the DNS name for your virtual host and see if that works.

Looks like the plugin is running but not creating/writing to the RRD.

One more thing to try, look at the "httpComponent" Monitoring Template, and look at the "parser" selection for the data source. If it's "auto", try "Nagios" instead or vice versa.

Barring that, I don't know what the problem would be.

I'm having the same isue as well. I can execute all of the commands directly with success, but the graphs are not updating at all. I also tried the "httpComponent" from auto to Nagios and vice versa with no success. Any other possible ideas?

I wasn't sure after suggesting the parser switch if that fixed it, but apparently it did...I'm not sure why this would be happening, maybe the frontend script is doing something slighly "un-nagios-like" that Zenoss doesn't like.

I also had problems, I think it might be worth updating the ZenPack but for anyone else here's what you need to do.

sudo vim /usr/local/zenoss/zenoss/ZenPacks/ZenPacks.community.zenHttpComponent-1.3-py2.6.egg/ZenPacks/community/zenHttpComponent/libexec/check-http-wrapper.sh

2) Press [Insert]

Rename from:

COMMAND="/opt/zenoss/libexec/check_http"

Rename to:

COMMAND="/usr/local/zenoss/common/libexec/check_http"

4) Press [esc]

5) Type :wq then press [Enter]

6) Go to "Advanced" -> "Monitoring Templates" -> "Httpcomponent/Devices/check-http" -> "View and edit details"

7) Change the parser to "Nagios"

8) Restart the zencommand daemon

This is a great zenpack, but can I confirm that once it's installed, you can no longer apply a HTTP check at device class level? Once the HTTP check becomes a component, all HTTP checks must be configured on a per device level right?

In our environment, the same HTTP url check must be applied to several hundred machines. Using the original HTTP monitor template at class level then allows inheritance to all the devices.

I just wanted to confirm that the HTTP components zenpack isn't really suited for this type of URL monitoring..

I'm missing something I think. I installed the zenpack and it shows up properly in the zenpacks list after zopectl restart and zenhub restart. However, when I choose Infrastructure > Devices, I have no "Monitored URLs" Device class. Can anyone point me to what might be wrong?

Changing the Component attribute does not work. When I change this attribute it cotinues to apear only as URL component in the events for the device. Also the monitored URL item does not show the event. Is there a way to fix it?

working fine for me on ubuntu with 3.2.1 and version 1.4.

Take a look in your device at the bottom of the page, click on the "+" on left of the wheel.

And select add monitored url.

For people who want to monitor https on 443, i have made a modification in the check-http-wrapper.sh

Dunno why it's not working with the -S .. but if i change it for the --ssl everything goes well....

change the :

I'm not sure why, but sometimes the "httpComponents" relation does not get added to a device. You can confirm this by going to the "Device Status Page", removing everything after the last "/" and replacing it with "manage" (this goes to the Zope backend). If you don't see a relation called "httpComponents", then this is the issue.

If this is the case, try the following:

From the commandline, enter a "zendmd" session and enter the following:

for d in dmd.Devices.getSubDevices():

d.buildRelations()

commit()

If this works, you should now see the "httpComponents" relation on the aforementioned page, and adding a monitored URL should now work correctly.

Yes, the check_http output controls the returned status (which conforms to the typical Nagios standard).

This Zenpack is intended to serve as a "wrapper" for check_http, where the arguments are stored on a per-component basis. All the shell script does is take the arguments, pass them to check_http, and return check_http's output.

I'm not sure I follow your question. Are you asking what determines the output status? If so, Nagios plugins use the exit status of the script to control the return status of the program...in a shell script, you can do this by

exit 0 (for OK)

exit 1 (for WARNING)

exit 2 (for CRITICAL)

that's from memory so you may need to double-check the Nagios docs.

But i think the status state doesn't work properly anyway.

I think it's juste a part of the answer, but if you take a look at the template , you can see there is an even will be throw if something goes wrong. So it's the same for the up or down for the ping status. If an even for your device with the severity "error" is found in the event classe "/status/web", your status will be at DOWN, otherwise it will be at UP.

I got this to work on Zenoss Core 4.2.0 under CentOS 6.3.

Therefore I forked this project on GitHub (https://github.com/yves-vogl/ZenPacks.community.zenHttpComponent) to implement a few changes. Currently I've made no modifications to the code yet - but I added a few tickets that cover the problems I had.

For installing this zenpack provided here, you need to rename the .egg file to ZenPacks.community.zenHttpComponent-1.5-py2.7.egg

I'd be happy if you can report your problems (https://github.com/yves-vogl/ZenPacks.community.zenHttpComponent/issues) so that I can get this nice Zenpack back to live.

Also, I ran into several situations where it claimed the component was "Up" but it really wasn't. At first, since my check_http wasn't in libexec, it was failing to issue the command at all. Second, when I fixed that, I realized that the IP was not the primary IP of the device. Due to that, it was getting a 400 error. I would have thought one or both of these conditions wouldn't be considered "Up".

How are the certificate check and the Basic Authentication supposed to work? Checking the "Certificate" option seems to add the "-C" flag with no "days" argument. Enabling "Authentication" and entering a "User" and a "Password" adds "-a" with no AUTH_PAIR to the invocation of check_http.

Looks like you're right about the '-C' flag -- i thought it was a boolean switch. The user and password should be working though. There are 2 sets of auth parameters, though, (proxy and regular), so make sure the correct ones are being used.

I'm currently re-working this zenpack and i'll be sure to include the fix for the -C argument.

I have SSL Cert check working by using the "Plugin Flags" section at the bottom of the configuration.

In a nutshell I configured the Monitored URL, checked the instructions on the help output for check_http for how the -C flag is supposed to work, then added "-C 15" as a Plugin Flag under the "Details" display for the monitored URL.

I tested it and it does generate an event as expected.

I imagine if we wanted to use any of the other check_http facilities we could use the same strategy.

Glad that works for now...i had forgotten about the "plugin flags" option, but you're correct that it should work for any other options that the zenpack doesn't provide a wrapper for.

I would suggest a cosmetic change. Please add autoExpandColumn: 'name' in httpcomponent.js

It will look much better.
