Is anyone planning to make a ZenPack for ESX(i) using this? I've been trying a little but I can't seem to get the queries right. It would be interesting as it would be close to the way ESX(i) is managed natively.

If anyone has ideas for this or is willing to link to a good read, please PM or email me, i'm very interested.

I am trying to make a template for ESXi servers using this I am wondering if anyone has done this or if anyone would be able to help me out with this I am trying to make a graph for the fans right now and am using this link http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/cim-sdk/smash/ga/reference_html/OMC_NumericSensor.html to get the fans rpm's. I am pretty confused as how to use this zenpack.

Hi eric.enns,

many examples you can find in HP EVA Monitor ZenPack.

Here is a small Step-by-Step WMI/WBEM template creation guide

1. Create new WBEM data source in your template

2. set namespace (root/cimv2) and Instance (OMC_NumericSensor)

3. test datasource against your server (you get list of instances)

4. replace Instance property in data source with name of first instance (something like: root/cimv2: OMC_NumericSensor.CreationClassName=" OMC_NumericSensor", DeviceID="something", SystemCreationClassName=" OMC_NumericSensor", SystemName="something")

5. test datasource against your server (you get all properties names and values list )

6. add data points to your data source (data points name must be the same as CIM property name)

7. test datasource against your server (you get only data points names and values)

ever since I moved to 3.0 (and even after installing the 2.8 version) I am getting "ZenPacks.community.WBEMDataSource.services.WbemPerfConfig.WbemPerfConfig: list index out of range" on a daily basis. Any ideas what is causing this?

thats the thing, as far as I know there is no query except as part of a regular modelling or something, as the error is attributed in the event log as being for localhost, and not for a device being queried.

After removing the Zenpack, I am consistently receiving heartbeat warnings on both my main monitoring host and all of my distributed collectors. I have tried re-installing and uninstalling using both the web interface and command line with no luck. I have restarted zope and the zenoss-stack as a whole with no luck. I have also tried to clear heartbeats on the local host with no luck. The only way to get the heartbeats to quit is to re-install the zenpack and leave it installed.

Just yesterday we added a HP EVA to out ZenOss and we also got the message dboutte got.

In the traceback it lists:

since i'm using zenos 3 and the latest WBEMDataSource zenpack, there are some differencies from your step-by-step.

Anyway, i'm not getting results when testing against the device.

I have added a new Datasource to a template:

Name: WBEMTest

Namespace: root/cimv2

Query: SELECT * FROM CIM_Processor

I don't have this "instance" part when defining new Data source in a template.

Anyway, testing it against a discovered device with functional WBEM (tested the same WMI query localy and it's OK) and zWinUser and Password set, produces this (x.x.x.x is the real IP address):

1. not arguing with that, but i think in my case the root cause is something else.

running examples 2 or 4 provides the same unsuccessful output:

Since this WBEM zenpack is used by HP EVA zenpack i'm testing as well, i want to get this zenpack to behave good....

any ideas?

I have used all five examples to connect to a RedHat and an Ubuntu server. What I did is I installed the .egg file from the console I added a new WBEM monitoring template and I test the queries from there. I apologise in advance because I am two days new in Zenoss and I have probably done something wrong.

Could anyone help me?

Egor,

my ZENPERFWBEM daemon keeps freezing once a day or every two days, no rules to why or when.sometimes it hangs during the night, sometimes in the morning, etc.

It simply hangs, the process is UP but frozen, no data is collected and graphed during the freeze, and the zenperfwbem needs to be killed on an OS level with "kill -9 PID". zenoss restart or zenperwbem restart doesn't help.

I have activated a zenperfwbem watchdog and it helps, it restarts and brings back the daemon but we have a gap in graphs for 10-20 minutes everytime it happens.

It's not such a big deal (a 20-min hole in graphs) but i would like to troubleshoot it and find the cause of this regular freezing. Zenperfwbem logs don't say anything usefull when this happens, even in a debug mode, it simply stops writing to a log file.

Any suggestions? What to look for, where to start looking?

Hello Egor,

I have succesfully implemented your WMI ZenPack to monitor NumberOfProcesses for my Windows machines.

The differences between my WMI and my WBEM one are:

DataSource: WMI vs WBEM

DataSource Query: SELECT FreePhysicalMemory, NumberOfProcesses FROM Win32_OperatingSystem vs

Linux_OperatingSystem (The SELECT approach give me errors.) Both return results.

Thresholds - Event Class: /Status/Wmi vs /Status/Wbem

Events: zeneventlog Could not read the Windows event log (ExecNotificationQuery on training3.clouddesktop.local (WBEM_E_NOT_SUPPORTED)). Check your username/password settings and verify network connectivity

zenperfwbem: Could not get WBEM Instance (Received Socket error: [Errno 104] Connection reset by peer from query: Linux_OperatingSystem)

and

Could not get WBEM Instance (global name 'classname' is not defined)

I know you are very bussy but I would appreciate a lot if you could have a quick look to my question. I have spent one week and I am out of ideas.

it seems like you have somewhere query with 'WHERE' statement.

Note that most of WBEM providers doesn't sopport 'WQL' query syntax, but 'GetInstance' ( Linux_OperatingSystem.CreationClassName="Linux_OperatingSystem",

CSName="fabric1.clouddesktop.local",CSCreationClassName="Linux_ComputerSystem",

Name="fabric1.clouddesktop.local" or simply Linux_OperatingSystem will also work for you) syntax will work in most cases.

Alias ID./formula: (I have used it leaving the ID box empy and with NumberOfProcesses on it, same result)

I add it then to a graph or a threshold and nothing happens, no result. If I do the same with WMI the thresholds and graphs work.

Any idea?

I am trying to monitor Percent Physical Memory Used. My data source querry is:

Linux_OperatingSystem

The formula I would like to use is:

100 * (TotalVisibleMemorySize - FreePhysicalMemory) / TotalVisibleMemorySize

How do I create a WBEM Data Point that provide me with this information?

If anybody could point me on the right direction I will really appreciate it.
