ZenPacks : HPUX : Comments

I am trying to get this ZenPack to work for HP-UX. When I snmpwalk the MIB on the server, I do not receive any values on output per the OID's defined in the template for this ZenPack.Is there anything special I need to do to get this to work? Do I need to install a MIB in Zenoss? Please advise.

Any idea if/when this ZenPack will be updated to work with version 3? This is the last one I need to get completely over to v3.

hey i'm working on it at the moment except i'm changing it a bit so you'll need ssh access to run some commands.

at the moment i've got it collecting:

serial number

model

mem / swap

cpu info

software

process ( i think can't rember atm )

file systems

usual network info works

i'll work on the cpu / memory graphs tomorrow and hopefully get that done and i just wanted to add something else to the file system graphs.

i'll need some others to try to it so keep checking back soon and try it out when i post it up so i know its working ok.

I've pretty much finished the zenpack for v3 i've just got to do a little bit more testing and make sure it will install OK on a fresh setup. Shouldn't be too far away maybe a 1 week.

Sorry about the delay all, i started adding more servers in for testing and found some bugs which i've fixed up.

Also for the updates to work you'll need ssh and snmp, otherwise you won't get as much info e.g. packages installed, serial numbers etc. I'll make the modelers self explanatory.

I was holding off uploading it until i finish the clustering stuff but i'll upload what i have tomorrow and if others are keen for clustering info i'll put more effort into that.

another setback i tried updating the zenpack today but i'm getting some weird things happening.

i was trying to name them something more meaningful and now it won't compile...i'll work on it again tomorrow.

Looks like i've got it all working ok now.

I've got it zipped ready for testing, i'm just going to import into a clean env and make sure it load OK then upload here.

I probably won't upload it to git because its to hard for me to work out.

Ok so it went ok in the clean env everything added as it should. I've uploaded the zip file.

Install Instructions.

- Exract egg file

- Install Zenpack

- Restart Zopectl and Zenhub

- A new class should appear HPUX, add device

- Edit the modeler settings to include:

nozen.ssh.HPUXDevice

nozen.ssh.HPUXMemory

nozen.ssh.HPUXCpu

nozen.ssh.Software

nozen.snmp.HPUXProcessMap

nozen.snmp.HPUXFileSystemMap

Should go OK if it doesn't try snmp the oids i used in the templates and let me know if it doesn't work. It takes around 1-2mins to model each device so be patient.

If you plan on using the ssh plugins you'll need to add your ssh details or key details on the config properties.

Please supply some feedback, this was tested on 11.23.

Also let me know if you want to add or change some anything, i'm keen to hear what other HPUX admins want to collect.

Loaded this zenpack in today and modeled a server. There were a couple of errors. The relevant messages are listed below. This was on a HPUX 11.31 machine.

there is an issue with the device modeler in this version which i've fixed up thats why your not getting model and serial.

not sure why memory isn't working. can you run machinfo as the ssh user on your box?

i should have an 11.31 box in the next couple of days that i can trouble shoot with.

Hi nozen !.

I found the problem with HPUXMemory.py, line 17

memory = command.split('=')[1].strip()
IndexError: list index out of range

The index is out of range, because command that you're spliting is without '=' sign.

machinfo | grep Memory on some systems just puts out: Memory: 1000M (1 G) , there is no '=', just ':'.

Simple workaroud can by something like that:

in procedure 'parse_mem'

command.replace(':', ' =') -> second argument is ' =' (space an equal sign)

and then

memory = command.split('=')[1].strip()

I check this only in the interpreter (i startup python and just type it)

i've found some more problems looks like 11.31 returns the memory values in kb where 11.23 returned bytes so i'll need to update some data points but i might have to make it a different zenpack for 11.31 i don't know how to tell it not to use certain data points based on the OS.

im looking into the possibilty of querying the CIM server in HPUX to get this information thinking we might be able to pull back more info but its too early to tell.

I'm quite new to Zenoss, just installed it a couple of days ago. I've got two issues:

In Components -> File Systems, all Used Bytes and Free Bytes are 0.00B. Does this Zenpack provide this info? Is it snmp or ssh?
Yesterday I finally succeeded in configuring ssh (with keys). But I still don't see anything under Software. The user I connect to is called zenoss and is just a regular user. How should the user be configured? Will a regular user be sufficient or does the user need additional rights?

Hello,

If your using the latest its a bit of both. Doesn't matter what the username you created is. But the user will need permissions to swlist -l product on the hpux box for it to work.

Google allow normal user to use swlist in HPUX and you should find your answer (i can't remember at the moment).

We're using ZenPacks.nozen.HPUXMon-1.0-py2.6.zip. I discovered it didn't execute because of a bug in HPUXSoftware.pyc. It's fails over the exclamation mark in the following software package installed:

HP..HP-UX Obsolescence (DO NOT INSTALL THIS ALONE!) B.11.23..200801280931.34

When I add grep -v ! to the command parameter in HPUXSoftware.pyc. It runs without problems (but it's a workaround obviously). Software is filled now.

I'm still having problems that I don't see any machinfo output on the Overview page and no Used Bytes and Free Bytes on the File Systems page.

I've found this as well. I just came across another one where i had a * in the software which caused it to fail. I'm sure there is a smarter way to this but in the mean time just keep adding lines for special characters.

I'm also finished on the 11.31 package which gets more information but you'll need to have glance for it to work properly.

No sure why you wouldn't be getting machinfo, is ssh working ok e.g. you've setup keys or entered the creds into the config page?

I no longer have an 11.23 system to test against.

I´m using Zenoss 2.4.5 with the ZenPack HPUXMonitor-2.2-py2.4 and the FileSystem information are not shown in the OS Tab in spite of the OID is OK. I´m monitoring an HP-UX v11.00 server. Can anybody help me with this issue?
