When installing this I got this warning:

WARNING:zen.ToManyRelationshipBase:Tried to delete object id 'BridgeDeviceDetail' but didn't find it on /zport/dmd/zenMenus/More/zenMenuItems

This is on 2.4.5. Should I be worried?

I know this is a pain in a production environment, but can I ask you to try deleting an existing switch and rediscovering it directly into the /Network/Switch/BridgeMIB device class. It would appear that device classes that have "container" relationships prohibit devices being moved into the new class - this seems to be a caveat on several ZenPacks. Hopefully, that will fix it - please report back.

I haven't tested this with 2.4.5 (and don't currently have one) but I do have a 2.5 beta so will test on that and report back..

I assume you did restart both zenhub and zopectl after installing the ZenPack?? After doing so, does the ZenPacks menu report the bridge ZenPack as looking OK?

I'm not sure why moving doesn't work - anyone else know????

I added the zenpack to my testing env using Zenoss 2.4.5 and got the same error as jmp242, I ran zenpack ---install= again and did not get the error message again.

I was able to move a Cisco 3750 switch from /network/switch to /network/switch/BridgeMIB but do not get any bridge interface tables even after adding the correct collector plugins:

"No Interfaces found. Double check you have the correct collector plugin and you have remodeled."

Hi,

i just instaleld and tested 1.0.4 version on zenoss 3.1.0, no problem installing and after i discovered a Cisco 2900 switch, Bridge interafces are discovered. this zenpack is great!

I have some questions on BridgeMIB usage:

1. my switch has 53 interface and only 4 bridge interfaces are discovered (to 4 other zenoss-discovered cisco devices). What about other devices connected to this switch? Why i don't see at least their mac addresses?

2. shouldn't i be able to use this zenpack to see e.g. server devices (mac or even hostname if server is in zenoss) connected to my switch?

Or to be more clear, what qualifies a device to be a "remote device" in a bridge interface? Does it have to support BridgeMIB? Does it have to be a network device? Does it have to be discovered by zenoss?

You should be able to see at least the MAC address for any remote device that has been contacted through your switch port. This relies on your switch reporting the Bridge MIB OIDs for dot1dTpFdbAddress / Port / Status - the OID for the table entry is 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1 and address is then .1, port is .2 and status is .3. The ZenPack then takes the MAC address from the .1 OID and tries to look up that MAC address in the Zope database to resolve to an IP address and hostname - if the device on the end of the switch is not in your Zenoss database, then you will only get the MAC address.

Seems strange that you are seeing MAC addresses for some devices and not others.

Things you could try would be to use snmpwalk on your switch to get the 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1 table entry - that gives you the "raw" data. If you only get 4 interfaces out of that then the issue is with the switch's support of the bridge MIB. If you get lots more interfaces / MAC addresses then try running zenmodeler in debug mode against the switch - for a device called switch.class.example.org in your Zenoss database, that would be:

zenmodeler run -v 10 -d switch.class.example.org

and watch the output carefully.

thanks for your input.

Using a side SNMP browser tool and walking the dot1dTpFdbTable entries on my switch, I can confirm that my switch indeed only lists 4 interfaces. Listed ports are equivalent to those reported by zenoss (bridge mib zenpack).

So the issue is with the switch's support of the bridge MIB, as you suggested, and not on the zenoss side.

i have some quetstion to ask you. I study to developed a zenpack like you, but I found the values of component's tables unchange. i konw it store in zopedb. How can it automatically update？can i set the cycletime?

i try to set "advance->collects->configuration" , but i find it didn't work.

Hi!

As you say, you can change the zenmodeler polling interval but do be aware that this will remodel ALL devices at the interval that you set. It might be an awful lot of extra polling.

now, i want to add threshold for my component, i found a "alert line" in my graph, when I set the maximum and minimum I think it should be two lines --one marked maximum, the other a minimum mark。but in the end only one line and it mark minimum . can I customize two lines describe the range？

i find code called RenderServer.py , there is a fun "render" parse the raw-data and i try to change it. but Can not achieve my goal. can I do this idea？

This is really getting outside the subject of the bridge MIB ZenPack - may be better discussed in the standard users forum; however...

Zenoss graphs use rrdgraph under the covers. rrdgraph automatically decides what scale to use for a graph (by default) based on the data it has. I often find that I don't see 2 thresholds because at least one falls outside the range that rrdgraph has decided to plot. You can add Custom Graph Definitions to a graph in a template - add things to the "Custom" box. I have had some success with --alt-autoscale and --alt-y-grid. You might try googling for these parameters and try a few things. I certainly wouldn't try altering RenderServer.py itself.

Please forgive me as I have not looked at the code for this ZenPack but this may not be a problem with the switch. By default on some cisco switches (at least the ones I have played with) the bridge MIB only shows you vlan 1 information. If your switch ports are assigned to different vlans then you need to query that vlan specifically. So if you have a vlan 10 you have to use snmpcommunity@10 to get the bridge mib for that vlan. To get vlan 50 you would use snmpcommunity@50

Again I haven't looked at the code, but if the ZenPack does not detect vlans first and then go back and query each vlan then by default only vlan 1 information will be found.
