great stuff but don´t forget to open the firewall:

esxcfg-firewall -o 161,udp,in,SNMP

and

esxcfg-firewall -o 171,udp,in,SNMP-vm

This pack works fine for ESX 3.5 but it doesn't work properly with ESX 4.0 as VMWare dropped their SNMP support in 4.0 (no idea why they didn't just leave it as it was in 3.5).

All of the graphs don't work. I get the list and status of the VMs, but that's useless without the graphs.

I am having almost the perfect opposite problem as Ryan Matte. My graphs seem to be working fine but I have no information on the guests. I am running ESX 3.5 and followed the above steps without any trouble. Not sure where exactly to go on this one.

Check the dependencies, you need to install the Virtual Host Monitor ZenPack before install this ZenPack.

Thank you. That resolved the issue. I'm a little puzzled about what information can be extracted from the ESX host. I am hosting the ESX server on a Dell 2950 and am unable to pull the hw info even though I am running Dell Open Manage. I am able to view the hw info for non esx systems such as a windows server.

Any thoughts/directions much appreciated.

Step 3. can be done w/o the use of the remote CLI by editing the file /etc/vmware/snmp.xml directly on your ESX server.

im really cant see where the guests are monitored. Also i cant see graphs for host but it shows the hostname, snmpagent, ip, interfaces,services. Im using zenoss3.0 and when modelling it from the CLI i can see the guests being captured. Anyone can show me a screenshot of how it should look or give me any directions please?

A note of clarification for the External Dependencies instructions: on some systems, the script 'vicfg-snmp.pl' will be simply 'vicfg-snmp'. (For example, installed in the default location on Debian/Ubuntu, the executable is at '/usr/bin/vicfg-snmp').

It's not installing because of the -py2.4 in the filename. With Zenoss 3.0 it has to be -py2.6 or omitted. Also, VMWare crippled their SNMP support in recent versions. The best community pack for monitoring ESX and ESXi at the moment is: http://community.zenoss.org/docs/DOC-10225
