I would navigate to ADVANCED -> Monitoring templates where you should be able to find ApcUps -> /Power/UPS/ApcUps in the left-hand menu. This shows the template that the ZenPack provides, including a data point called temp. There aren't any thresholds provided, but in the right-hand part of the screen under Thresholds, click the "+" symbol and add a threshold of type MinMaxThreshold and give it a name. When created, double click it to provide man / max values. Make sure the temp_temp datapoint is selected. You can change severity and the event class.

If you want to see the threshold on the temp graph, click on the temp graph in the bottom-right panel and use the "gear" Action dropdown to "Manage Graph Points". Click the "+" in the next box and choose a threshold. Your new threshold should appear in the dropdown list.

Have a look at section 6.2 in the Zenoss Admin Guide for more info on templates.

Hi Nikolai,

The problem is that this ZenPack creates a device class /Power/UPS/ApcUps (see message around line 3 in your output above). This assumes that you have the standard /Power/UPS device class. Some people delete the standard device classes that they are not using - perhaps you did that??

The resolution should be easy. Create a device class hierarchy /Power/UPS and then try to install the ZenPack again. Please let me know if this works or not.

I will update the documentation to note that these standard device classes do need to be available.

Hi Nikolai,

You seem to have a real mixture going on here.

For starters, you shouldn't have anything to do with the ZenPack under $ZENHOME/Products - ZenPacks should end up installed under $ZENHOME/ZenPacks.

If you download something with a .zip on the end, then YOU need to unzip it first to get an egg file. If you download something that ends in .egg then DO NOT unzip it - the zenpack command will do that for you.

As the zenoss user, try running:

zenpack --list

to see whether Zenoss thinks the Apc Ups ZenPack is installed. If it is, try

zenpack --remove ZenPacks.ZenSystems.ApcUps

zenhub restart

zopectl restart

zenpack --list

The danger is that you now have bits of the ZenPack under $ZENHOME/Products (where it shouldn't be) so if the above commands don't clean out ALL parts of the ZenPack, including under $ZENHOME/Products, then try manually removing those files/directories.

Once you have it completely cleaned out and zenpack -- list shows no reference to it, then:

Make sure the /Devices/Power/UPS device class exists

Get the latest version of the egg file from https://github.com/jcurry/ZenPacks.ZenSystems.ApcUps/blob/master/dist/ZenPacks.ZenSystems.ApcUps-1.2-py2.6.egg?raw=true Note this is NOT zipped.

As the zenoss user, change directory to where the .egg file is

zenpack --install ZenPacks.ZenSystems.ApcUps-1.2-py2.6.egg

zenhub restart

zopectl restart

zenpack --list

cd $ZENHOME/ZenPacks

There should be a directory hierarchy there called ZenPacks.ZenSystems.ApcUps-1.2-py2.6.egg

May be the problem was in file permisions ( .egg ), becouse I download file with root user and install it with root user ( #zenpack --install ZenPacks.ZenSystems.ApcUps-1.2-py2.6.egg ).

Here is the result of new installed zenoss using zenoss user:

Glad it worked in the end. I think most of us get caught trying to install ZenPacks as root.

EVERYTHING you do from the command line in Zenoss should ALWAYS be done as the zenoss user.

Is there any way to add an alert/event based on whether the battery needs to be replaced? I have a UPS that is reporting that the battery needs to be replaced (and it does) but there's no event. The only way I would know that it needs to hvae a battery replaced is to look at the device in Zenoss and see what it says about the battery status.
