      <description>&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyStart:620df8ed-2b8b-44b4-b533-6b0d68a6bb3c] --&gt;&lt;div class="jive-rendered-content"&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Zenoss doesn't check port status out of the box except when you actually model the device.&amp;#160; To get it to monitor/alert on port status you need to do this: &lt;/span&gt;&lt;a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://community.zenoss.org/docs/DOC-2494"&gt;http://community.zenoss.org/docs/DOC-2494&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span&gt;.&amp;#160; The status icon changing on the interfaces page is directly related to an event being present in the event console in event class /Status/IpInterface.&amp;#160; The way this works hasn't changed.&amp;#160; You probably just thought that Zenoss was actively showing the status when in fact it was not.&amp;#160; You could set up your Zenoss instance via the guide that I linked to.&amp;#160; After doing that, you could set up your alerting rules not to send email alerts when those events come in.&amp;#160; That's about the best that you're going to get.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyEnd:620df8ed-2b8b-44b4-b533-6b0d68a6bb3c] --&gt;</description>

The mesage contains port online/offline (in addition to link up/down that shows correctly) and telnet access.       <description>&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyStart:eca33546-2f62-46ad-a4da-a80cb760c80b] --&gt;&lt;div class="jive-rendered-content"&gt;&lt;p&gt;I'd recommend not using the interface to install ZenPacks, it's much better to do it from the commandline.&amp;#160; SSH to your Zenoss server, become the zenoss user (sudo su - zenoss) and then do zenpack --install &amp;lt;file&amp;gt;.&amp;#160; You can upload the file to your server via FTP or just use wget to pull it down directly from the URL.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;!-- [DocumentBodyEnd:eca33546-2f62-46ad-a4da-a80cb760c80b] --&gt;</description>
