Will there be new maintenance/bugfix releases for the 2.4 branch?

it would be more convenient then applying patches. I've seen on trac a 2.4.6 milestone but didn't find much info about it.

Not to my knowledge as the current "stable" branch is 2.5. They pushed it out because they needed to maintain their 6 month release cycle.

Yes I know. But even after releasing 2.5 they give 2.4 users a list of patches to apply manually using a tedious process. It's good that developers focus on the new version (and recommend using it), but there is nothing wrong with maintaining multiple branches to support older versions (and keep people happy..)
