Hi,

Nice zenpack.

I would like it to process tree locations.

Example:

+ Portugal

+ Porto

How should I configure snmp location, so the device will be placed into Porto.

Hmm... it wouldn't be too difficult to update the parsing code to look for a '/' separator and try to add the location there. I don't really have the cycles to do it anytime soon, but the only 2 files that do anything are the modeler:

This should work fine in 4.x you should just have to rename the egg file so that it says -py2.7 instead of -py2.4.

I have updated this ZenPack and released version 2.0 on our wiki page:

This new version supports "/" for specifying heirarchies of location organizers. And there are download links for 3.x and 4.x available.

In 4.2.3, will the Locations automagically update if the SNMP location is changed in the device?

I see us implementing this, then going “oh crap, where did that come from” and going out to change the Location on the device. How does Zenoss process this change?

The locations are checked at every remodel, and the device will be moved if the location has changed.

Is there somewhere to specify how often devices are remodeled? Does it even happen automatically?

By default, this happens every 12 hours in Zenoss. Or you can manually remodel a device if you know the SNMP location has changed and you want this reflected right away.

Will this automatically delete unused locations? Still on the fence on whether or not that’s a good idea. 50/50

This will not automatically delete unused locations. The locations organizer can still be used manually by Zenoss users, so auto-cleanup would make things unusable.

Assuming you don't have massive churn in your sysLocation values, cleanups shouldn't require much work.

How about GPS Coordinates? Normally, I would paste them into the Location address description.

I left the system alone overnight, and it doesn’t appear to have remodeled. There’s not a bunch of new locations, anyways?....
