Winservice failed event keeps coming back

I'm still test-running ZenOss and upgraded to 2.2.4 hoping that it would behave less oddly :-)

Now I have an event concerning a failing WinService which keeps coming back despite the fact I've set the WinService not to monitor both globally and inside the server object and I explicitly deleted the service from the server-object WinServices list.

For testing purposes I previously set the WinService "MSSQLServerADHelper" to "Monitor: True" on the global object. I remodelled a few windows servers where he found this service. The service was not running on those servers so after some time Zenoss told me the service failed on that server. Indeed, that service is not running and is in fact disabled on all servers. So I set "Monitor: False" again on the global object. And the WinService also disappeared from the servers object OS-view. I moved the events to history. All clear I thought.

BUT, the event reappeared after a few seconds for only ONE server.
I tried everything by adding the WinService back to that specific server-object and then deleting it, or setting the monitor to false on the server-object only.. But the event keeps coming back despite the WinService not being listed in the WinServices list of the server object.

How is this possible that this service is still being polled by ZenOss on this one server while I explicitly ask ZenOss not to monitor the service both locally and globally ?

Well, 7 hrs is a little over the 6hr re-model time... I wonder if the
    modeling does something for it...

Hmm, I have the same kind of event-behaviour with a server, not belonging to the windows domain (but inheriting the domain credentials zProperties within zenoss) complaining about connection errors with WMI. Indeed the domain credentials don't work on that server.
So I changed the local zProperties with the right credentials. A wmic test was succesfull and a remodel of the server, gave me the list of winservices in the OS tab. But the state of the winservices is all green (while some are effectively down). And I keep getting the event about the WMI connection problem errors.
I tried everything, but I keep getting the WMI connection errors event.

Only after a full restart of ZenOss, I finaly start getting the actual state of the winservices, and the event doesn't come back.. It would probably also be fixed if I waited for a number of hours...?

Re: RE: Winservice failed event keeps coming back

Got this fix from rmatte in #zenoss on freenode:

If you have a distributed environment (multiple collectors + master) then you might try updating the collector for the server.

    • Go to 'Collectors' under your 'Management' section of the left-hand navigation
    • click on the collector for your server
    • select 'Update Collector...' from the drop-down tab on the resulting page

Alternatively, if you have a single server, you may need to restart zenwin (as the zenoss user, of course):

    zenoss_server>  zenwin restart

    Hope this helps!

Re: RE: Winservice failed event keeps coming back

Actually, I didn't suggest to "Update" the collector.  I suggested to push changes to the collector, which involves clicking on Devices in the left hand menu, then selecting "Manage -> Push Changes".  This can also be done from the Device page.

Restarting zenwin is most likely to fix the issue.  zenprocess has the same problem, I restart it after any changes to make sure that it picks up the new config properly.  zenwin may have the same problem, though I haven't personally confirmed this.
