WMI and Zenoss

Hi

Can someone point me in the right direction, im new to Zenoss and Unix (windows Administrator) and Im looking to set up a zenoss box using WMI to monitor all our servers (150+). Ive tried to configure WMI but im getting nothing reported back to zenoss.

Ive installed the Zenpack but still I cannot get it work does anyone have any handy tips (p.s. snmp is turned off by default for security on all our servers)

The version of zenoss is the VMware download.

Thanks

in Advance for any assistance

Which zenpack? Which zenoss release? What are you trying to monitor?

Have you read the Zenoss Admin Guide or the Community FAQ?

Do you plan on putting the account that zenoss will use to do WMI queries in the local administrators group on all your windows servers (extremely easy, but unsecure) or modify the rights to the different components needed for wmi access on all your servers? (extremly hard, but secure)

    Re: WMI and Zenoss

From the error message, we see "ERROR: zenpack command failed. Reason: error: Could not find suitable distribution for Requirement.parse('ZenPacks.community.WMIDataSource>=1.0')"  This indicates that you're trying to install a ZenPack without the proper dependencies.  You need to install WMI Data Source first.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    HI Alburnsy

    Check out this posting

    message/39086#39086

the error messages aren't there (due to the website cutover), but the links are there,  I suggest you read the entire thing and implement all those modifications.   I finally got WMI access working for a non domain user. it's a long and tough road to travel down, but in the end you make it.

    Hope it helps

    Alzoo

There is not full WMI coverage of Windows devices in Core yet (WMI modeling is currently in Enterprise), but the WMI Data Source and WMI Windows Performance are a good start down this path, since they provide monitoring via WMI.
