snmpwalk Timeout: No response from...

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting snmp configured for one of my servers. I'm able to get a result from the command "snmpwalk localhost -c public -v1" on the machine itself, but I'm unable to get anything but a timeout error when using the snmpwalk command in Zenoss.

I've looked through the "Configuration of NetSnmp for use with Zenoss" (docs/DOC-2502) and "How to Troubleshoot SNMP" (docs/DOC-2538) documentation and used the suggested configurations. I've also double-checked my user/pass settings in the device's zProperties, but am still unable to get a response.

It's a *nix boxed used for storage, so no mysql/apache/etc. Does anyone have any idea what else might be causing the problem?

Thanks.

Make sure your zenoss server is listed in the snmp configuration on the target server as an allowed snmp management station.

Make sure the snmp community string you are using is correct.

Make sure the snmp version you are specifiying on the snmpwalk command and what you have set in zenoss is correct.

Make sure there is no firewall running on the target server or the zenoss server that maybe blocking snmp traffic

And of course make sure there is no real firewall between your zenoss server and the target server blocking snmp traffic.

Google on nmap and if available on the zenoss server, us it to check and see if Zenoss can see the snmp port open on the target server.

( I notice your example says v1 most new stuff uses at least v2c )
