Python segmentation fault running Zenoss 2.5.0 zenmodeler on FreeBSD 7.2.4

This is the first time I've tried using Zenoss and this forum.
I had chosen Zenoss to replace an aging Big Brother as far and beyond Nagios and Ganglia in terms of usability and administration, if I can only get it to work!
The bottomline is I'm getting the same Python 2.4 Sig 11 segmentation fault when I try to run zenmodeler under 3 different Zenoss versions, including 2.5 (have yet to try 2.5.1) on latest FreeBSD 7.2.4. Most if the other Zenoss functionality is there, except for modeling and a few other daemons.
The details, gdb output and the core dump are attached as documents.
Thanks for any clues you can provide.
Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your insight.
I had come to same conclusion, and will eventually try to make the Zenoss FreeBSD a port instead of a hack compile from source.
I had been struggling with this for some time, and just thought one last gasp might cure the bloody edge.

Just to add that running it in Linux compatibility mode might be a good
solution if you're really stuck. FreeBSD's Linux compatibility was extremely
good back when I used FreeBSD, and probably even better nowadays.
Sorry to dig up an old post but I'm experiencing the exact same problem running FreeBSD 8 and Zenoss 2.4.5. I would really like to get this going as we are an all FreeBSD shop. I've been using the appliance for a few months but need to be able to leverage our current toolset. Whatever is causing this segmentation fault appears to be one of the last hurdles as most the other functionality (that I've tested) is working. Threshold may also be broken (something I can live without).
We also have every intention of creating at least a 2.4.5 port, and in time the latest release. I'd appreciate any help that could be provided in debugging and resolving the issue.
