Zenoss not sending syslog messages to Events

I recently started running Zenoss 2.5 on OpenSUSE 11.2. It all seems to be working great, except Zenoss is not sending syslog messages to Events. I've got tcp and udp ports 514 open on the firewall. Wireshark shows the syslog messages coming in and I've checked that no other syslog daemons are running besides zensyslog. Is there something else I'm missing? From reading through the forum, it sounds like most users get this part working right away.
you might need to configer syslog to listen on a different port zensyslog is listening on, and then to send to the port that zensyslog is listening on
could this be what you are looking for
chitambria, I'm running rsyslog on the host server and even though it is configured not to listen on any ports and only process local messages, I went ahead and followed the instructions in your link. This resulted in local syslog messages showing up in Zenoss Events, but still no messages from the switches or routers appeared (even though Wireshark shows them coming into the host serveron udp 514). After that, I shut down rsyslog completely to rule out the possibility it was creating any interference, but I still have no syslog messages coming into Events.
Any chance I'm missing something basic?
