Looks like I found the right app after speaking with the company who suggested I use the core as it will do what I want. Now the basic q's is more where to find. I read the install, have it installed, have 2 servers added via snmp but looking for a little more clarification. I have 50 or so devices I wish to monitor, but basics are disk space, server load, but the 1st major hurdle is our new database server. We just moved to a new server running pgsql 8.4, and I wish to both monitor the basics like load, space, but also want to performance graph transactions per second and other pgsql things that our old cacti did. So the question(s) is simply;
1. Out of the box install, to monitor a system and notify on alarm, does anything need to be installed on the client if snmp is enabled and working?
2. To perf monitor pgsql and such, same thing, do you need to install things? I have read a little on templates, etc. but not sure. I am over page 70 on the admin guide but figured I would post as well as read for better chance to answer.
Naturally I will have more in depth questions as I move forward, but need this one box monitored asap.
Thanks.
Look into the database zenpacks, I believe there is one for postgresSQL... I believe you need to be able to make an ODBC connection to the database, as I don't think the database exposes the info you want via SNMP.

Thanks, I did find what I think will get me started here;
I did read, download the attachment local and try to install using zenpackmanager, install. Pointed at the unzipped .egg file and recieved the following;
output: |
zenpack --install /tmp/ZenPacks.LearningObjects.PostgresqlMonitor-1.1-py2.4.egg |
/bin/sh: zenpack: not found |
Done installing ZenPack. |
I will read more tonight, but that package will get me started I think, just not sure why the error.
Thanks
Hmm... if this is a stack install on Ubuntu or Debian, try this suggestion I just posted on another thread.

Same error, then figured since it was more a login script change, lemme restart so I did and there it went;
Output: |

So it seemed to work like a charm. As I said in the OP, there is much more to learn, but once I get this one box working, I can dive into all the other options and have better questions!
Thanks
