New Amazon Web Services ZenPack

New in Zenoss 2.5, the Amazon Web Services ZenPack allows you to monitor Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) server instances. It collects information for these objects monitored through Amazon's CloudWatch APIs.
This ZenPack is documented in the Zenoss 2.5 Extended Monitoring Guide and source is available at http://dev.zenoss.org/trac/browser/trunk/zenpacks
Hi Matt,
My name is Edgar Téllez and I am from Mexico City, I am new in Zenoss, I have an account with Amazon EC2, and I have 8 instances EC2 that I want to monitor and have them viewed in my google map.
1.- I have the google map key
2.- I have my amazon account.
3.- I have a server with centos 5.4 64 bits and Zenoss already installed.
4.- I have created the respective location in the google map
5.- I already have the ports 161 and icmp protocol enabled in the instances.
6.- I have attached the instance device to its respective location.
But I have not had success to see the links in the google map.
Do you know a document, where i can find a process to install successfully this monitoring (i have already read the administration guide and nothing)?, do you have a tip?.
Your help and comments will be helpful to me, thanks.
Best Regards.
Edgar T.
The links on the Google map are populated by the interfaces on your devices. So if a device has been modeled and has an "eth0" and a network it's attached to, if you assign it to a different location than other device that are attached to that network, they'll be connected by a line on the Google map.
It works, thanks a lot
Hi Matt,
It's me again, as I told you before I am able to see my amazon instances, but only the east coast instances, the west coast and ireland don't.
The cloud watch monitoring is enable in all instances, as well as the ports mentioned in the documents (80, 443, 160-161 UDP, ssh).
Could you help me with this issue?, Do I need something else.
Regards.
Edgar T.
I've been trying to get development to fix http://dev.zenoss.org/trac/ticket/5811 since the data center is hard-coded. If you want to change it in the meantime, as far as I can tell it's hard-coded to 'us-east-1.ec2.amazonaws.com' in the file http://dev.zenoss.org/trac/browser/trunk/zenpacks/ZenPacks.zenoss.ZenAWS/ZenPacks/zenoss/ZenAWS/lib/boto/ec2/connection.py You should be able to go and change that to the proper data center.
As always thanks for help and your fast response, I will try to do this
manually (modify the connection.py file) while some fix or patch is
delivered.
Best Regards
Edgar Téllez

Hi Erik,
Before all thanks you and Matt for answering my questions.
I installed the new Zenoss core 3.0 alpha and the ZenPack AWS from the trunk
(svn) as you told me, but I am still seeing the same East Coast Instances, I
attached an Image. So I am not able to monitor the West Coast and Ireland
instances. Do you have any idea or Tip that I can follow
Best Regards.

Edgar,
I found out a couple of days ago that the patch didn't make it in and I'm not sure it will. The library we have now supports it but I guess the code we have wasn't quite ready for production. I will keep an eye on it and let you know when we make progress. Clearly this is a big deficiency with the pack right now.

Could you send me the patch, does not matter if it's not ready for
production, I would like to test it.
REGARDS.

I had a mistake, I wanted to say the library, not the patch.

No you want the patch and apparently there was a problem with it. One of the devs will get to it soon.
