Zenoss Installation Problem

I'm having some problems to install Zenoss. I'm trying to install it on a Debian Lenny but i'm doing it using the source code because i prefer and i need to do it. So the problem is the following:
After waiting for a along time to run the install script, i receive the message that it's unable to create the initial Zenoss object database.
Starting Zope Object Database
.
daemon process started, pid=19091
Loading initial Zenoss objects into the Zeo database
(this can take a few minutes)
Unable to create the initial Zenoss object database
When i looked to the log i saw that
Installing /usr/local/zenoss/lib/python/zenoss.extjs-3.0.0.1-py2.4-nspkg.pth
running install_scripts
Creating events database using zenevent build...
creating database
dropping any triggers that my already exist
loading schema
loading stored procedures
events database created and loaded
Error: value did not match regular expression: '\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x0$
(line 1 in file:///usr/local/zenoss/etc/zope.conf)
For help, use /usr/local/zenoss/Products/ZenModel/zenbuild.py -h
But i didn't recognize the problem. What should it be?
Thanks Pedro Diniz
Did you build from Subversion trunk or the 2.5.x branch?

Hi,
can zenoss be installed on zLinux? if yes is there any difference in installation procedure?
thanks
Zlinux is new to me - is it related to debian or redhat? You probably can eventually get Zenoss to install, but it's much easier using one of the major distros that's supported (CENTOS/Redhat)...

Hi James,
Thanks for the quick response. zLinux is from IBM. Any tips that you can give me on how to install? I notice that zenoss have specific installer for each unix flavor but it doesn't have for zLinux. What I did was to download the zenoss-stack-2.5.2-linux.bin package and tried to install it on zLinux but the bin file won't execute even though I already have execution rights on the bin file.
thanks

No Matt, i installed it from the source code, that i got from the downloads pages.
Thanks,
Pedro Diniz
Thats equal 2.5.x branch right?
MD5 doesn't match but i think that it's not the problem, because i've installed some softwares that MD5 didn't match too and i didn't have any problems.
Hi Pedro,
Do you mean you were able to install zenoss in zLinux using source code? Any special instructions on how to install?
Thanks

Pedro: Here's the write-up I did for building Zenoss from source against 2.5.x on Debian for PPC. Debian Source Build Notes
If the stack installer doesn't work, and you can't use an RPM or .deb, I'd seriously consider not trying to use Zenoss on that flavor of Linux. I'd strongly recommend installing CENTOS - you will have far less pain.
If you do really want to take on a project of getting Zenoss to work (and maybe doing some programming to make that happen) on a different Linux platform, you're down to trying the Source Code install. I can't provide any more help than that as I've never tried to install from source.

jycorral: zLinux is the Linux IBM provides for their zSeries mainframes. The installers from Zenoss are for x86 32/64-bit. I'm pretty sure you'll have to build from source to run on the zSeries, which may be a non-trivial endeavor, since I'm unfamiliar with the Linux userland for zLinux.
jycorral,
Zenoss can be in "any" Linux distribution from source. You can try to do that, but before doing that read the installation guide Chapter 6. Installing Zenoss from Source. Pay attention on the dependencies. And then you post your problems and people will try to help you, ok?
Thanks,
Pedro Diniz
