Alert setting

Hi,

I having issue on setting alert for zenoss where i already put in SMTP host and SMTP port. Just when i wanted to test out the alert, it show me one error message " 4.3.2 Service not available, closing transmission channel " . Does anyone have any idea how to troubleshoot this problem??

I also got few question that want to ask about the alert

a. how to test out my SMTP setting is correct or not

b. how to create alert for monitor CPU usage, memory and even when machine restart

Regards,

The 4.3.2 Service not available is a response from your remote SMTP Server. I'd start with a little google-foo and apply the results to your environment.

As for as testing, it would be nice if there was a "test" button, but in light of that you can create an test alert rule, and then using the event console you can manually create events that will trigger your alerting rule.

As for how to create the alert, you'll want to start by reading Chapter 6 in the Admin Guide: docs/DOC-9493. If you have specific questions after reading that, you should reply back with them

Actually to test what you can do is configured your SNMP setting, then goto the users section in advanced. If a user has an email address defined there is a link 'test' which will send a test email. you can use this to test your configuration.
