QA Test Day 02/04/2010

VERSION 1
Created on: Feb 5, 2010 10:28 AM by Matt Ray - Last Modified:  Feb 5, 2010 10:29 AM by Matt Ray

The topic for #zenoss-testing is: Zenoss QA Test Day Thursday: Zenoss 2.5.2 RC http://tinyurl.com/y85wuod (9:44:38 AM)
mrayzenoss has changed the topic to: Today is Zenoss QA Test Day: Zenoss 2.5.2 RC http://tinyurl.com/y85wuod (9:49:33 AM)
10:13:05 AM rmatte: I heard that there were concerns that the patch for ticket 5978 would possibly cause zenhub to crash.  I manually made the change to 13 of my Zenoss boxes and haven't had anything crash on them.  Not sure if there's another test scenario I could do?
10:13:49 AM rmatte: (I don't want to be the guy who suggested a patch which causes crashes lol)
10:15:06 AM rmatte: especially since you guys are aiming for 2.5.2 to be the final 2.5 release
10:15:22 AM bbibeault: That sounds fair enough; I haven't heard anything yet, but I am not the most familiar with this section of code.  I don't know of any other test cases yet.
10:15:34 AM bbibeault: Where did the concerns come from?
10:16:00 AM bbibeault: The goal is for this to be the final 2.5.x release, but there is always the zenpatch option, as well.
10:19:17 AM rmatte: Matt had mentioned something about it originally being implemented because of zenhub crashes, not sure where he got the info from
10:20:18 AM rmatte: The thresholds can't be disabled automatically, it limits the ability to use python expression in thresholds (which is immensely powerful)
10:20:40 AM rmatte: but I guess we won't know about any stability issues due to the patch until it hits the wild, I personally haven't experienced any
10:21:43 AM rmatte: other than that, I've looked over the other functionality and don't really have any concerns
10:29:24 AM bbibeault: That's great feedback, though.  Thanks.  IIRC with the original change, it's one of these issues where the old way you could cause a crash if you entered something bad in, but once we "plugged" that hole, it became much harder to test/use on a daily basis, so we are swinging back again.
10:35:40 AM rmatte: ah
10:38:45 AM rmatte: np
10:47:39 AM bbibeault: Testing the event console; I am seeing some issues with selecting say acknowledged events when I have > 100 events and a random subset marked as acknowledged.
10:56:03 AM mrayzenoss: well, AWS seems to work ok with 2.5.2, except for the tickets I opened already
10:56:19 AM mrayzenoss: I've been testing lots of ZenPacks on it, seems pretty solid
11:11:24 AM bbibeault: Good to hear.  Talking with the developer around the Event Console, there is some work ongoing against trunk to harden the selection of and actions taken on large numbers of tickets at once.
12:09:08 PM bbibeault: I am going through right now and testing some optional zenpacks, and plan to execute the unit tests soon.
12:33:37 PM rmatte: cool, I look forward to the end product
12:43:11 PM bbibeault: Welcome Jane, discussions have been quiet today (2.5.2 seems to be working well for folks that have downloaded the beta).
12:44:20 PM bbibeault: Also breaking for lunch, bbiab.
1:09:27 PM Jane_Curry: Do you know whether 2.5.2 has implemeted any of the proposed changes in polling interfaces
1:09:58 PM Jane_Curry: with respect to polling this with AdminStatus vs OperStatus  = Up
1:12:57 PM Jane_Curry: http://dev.zenoss.org/trac/ticket/5943
1:14:59 PM bbibeault: Jane, I've heard and seen nothing attached to that enhancement going into 2.5.2; it may make it into trunk, but I definitely can't commit to an enhancement making it in.
1:21:19 PM Jane_Curry: ok - just wanted a status update - thanks
1:44:02 PM bbibeault: We have a defect review meeting in about 15 minutes that I will attend, but please anything that comes up, feel free to post here; I will try and monitor.
1:46:36 PM mrayzenoss: gonna go kick off source installs on Ubuntu and Debian, as well as a source upgrade
1:47:21 PM rmatte: 5943 is a great suggestion
4:49:45 PM mrayzenoss: 2.5.2 doesn't seem to be turning up new bugs… let's ship it before we break it
4:50:23 PM bbibeault: Heresy!  Oh, wait, no, that's a good thing.
5:16:33 PM bbibeault: Ok guys, going to wrap this up.  Thanks all for participating, and I do appreciate the feedback.
5:17:18 PM bbibeault: Glad to see that we seem to be on the right track with 2.5.2.  As we move forward, if we have newer release candidates, I will try and post the artifacts to alpha.zenoss.com, and make a post in the forum to let folks know that the new bits are present.
5:17:37 PM mrayzenoss: my 2.5.2 source upgrades and builds seem good
5:17:39 PM mrayzenoss: FYI
5:17:51 PM mrayzenoss: Debian/Ubuntu
5:17:59 PM bbibeault: Good news.
5:18:06 PM bbibeault: *waves goodbye*
