QA Test Day 04/29/2010

VERSION 1
Created on: Apr 30, 2010 9:43 AM by Matt Ray - Last Modified:  Apr 30, 2010 9:46 AM by Matt Ray

mrayzenoss has changed the topic to: QA Test Day: Alpha #2 docs/DOC-5854 (9:20:58 AM)
10:16:57 AM bbibeault: Hello everyone, sorry for the late join.  Welcome to the QA Test Day covering Zenoss 3.0 Alpha #2.
10:17:28 AM bbibeault: Some of the things updated in Alpha #2 - the device details screen has been completely changed from Alpha 1, and now contains more functionality as well as a newer look and feel.  Please offer whatever feedback you have on this.
10:26:32 AM mrayzenoss: bbibeault: feel free to cross-post to #zenoss that sort of info
10:39:49 AM bbibeault: I am creating a 100% fresh installation of the latest build.  Will post here with results.
10:48:25 AM bbibeault: Also, alpha-level documentation has just been posted to the zenoss-testing forums.  Please use this to help you with any 3.0 questions that may arise.  Also, any feedback on this documentation would be helpful, and can help us focus on certain areas if needed before launch.
10:48:42 AM bbibeault: message/48233
10:57:54 AM bbibeault: @bureado, jahei_, ke4qqq, rhettardo - Do you have any feedback, either positive or negative, on the new Zenoss UI and other changes in 3.0?
11:10:18 AM SEJeff: Since the stone crab version of zope supports newer python and whatnot, what are the odds of working or at least the possibility of getting zenoss cleaned up a bit more and integrated into a real distro repository?
11:10:34 AM SEJeff: As in sudo apt-get install zenoss-server or yum install zenoss-server
11:17:28 AM bbibeault: SEJeff, that was a big todo item, but the UI ended up being more work than estimated, I think it's fair to say.  That is now tentatively planned as a 3.1 item for release.
11:18:11 AM SEJeff: bbibeault, I would be willing to help and have done a LOT of redhat packaging
11:18:19 AM SEJeff: Not so much debian packaging
11:18:59 AM bbibeault: I appreciate that; would you mind if I forwarded your email address to a couple of folks internally around that work?
11:20:08 AM SEJeff: bbibeault, I am IRL friends with nmcallum and have hung out with mrayzenoss + matt hinkle several times in person
11:20:15 AM SEJeff: Feel free
11:20:33 AM SEJeff: bbibeault, Ask Nathaniel or Matt
11:20:33 AM bbibeault: Thanks Jeff, and nice to meet you myself.
11:23:53 AM SEJeff: likewise
11:27:34 AM SEJeff: bbibeault, Also, should we (as a zenoss customer) wait until 3.1 to even consider upgrading?
11:29:31 AM bbibeault: I really can't make that call.  I know that we will be upgrading straight to 3.0.
11:45:40 AM SEJeff: Alright
1:19:21 PM rhettardo: bbibeault: i like the new UI.  took a little bit of getting used too but was fairly intuitive.
1:27:19 PM bbibeault: That is great to hear, thanks.
1:30:11 PM rhettardo: I am going to upgrade to the latest now and to some more testing fwiw
1:34:54 PM bbibeault: Thanks, that is great.  I am testing against the latest build myself.
1:51:16 PM rhettardo: hm. already ran into an issue doing an upgrade on rhel5 x64
1:51:16 PM rhettardo: Zenoss upgraded.  Running data migration scripts...
1:51:16 PM rhettardo: Upgrade pre step
1:51:16 PM rhettardo: Starting Zope Object Database
1:51:16 PM rhettardo: Error: no program specified; use -p or -C
1:51:16 PM rhettardo: For help, use /opt/zenoss/bin/zeoctl -h
1:51:16 PM rhettardo: Unable to start the Zeo object database (ZODB)
1:51:34 PM bbibeault: What are you upgrading from?
1:51:49 PM rhettardo: zenoss-2.5.70-642.el5.x86_64.rpm
1:52:16 PM bbibeault: rpm -Uvh zenoss-"alpha2"?
1:52:23 PM rhettardo: yes
1:53:45 PM bbibeault: Can you please open a ticket in Trac with the outputs of that?  We haven't been testing upgrades yet, that was the goal a bit further into the alphas.
1:53:51 PM rhettardo: yes of course
1:54:05 PM bbibeault: Thank you.
1:54:39 PM bbibeault: We can try and investigate and reproduce here.  I know that we are not inherently supporting upgrades between alphas, but the upgrades from say 2.5.2 should be better.  Again, neither of those have been actively tested yet.
1:58:54 PM rhettardo: Ticket #6629
1:59:24 PM rhettardo: understood.  just figured i would give it a shot and see.  will do a clean install now
4:23:32 PM rhettardo: hm
4:24:23 PM rhettardo: i see in the latest that when auto disocver devices and view log still show infinite width and i am still not getting any output  via the web interface
5:16:31 PM rhettardo: hm neer mind
5:16:53 PM rhettardo: took a while for me to get an output but it worked.  still infinite width though
