Installed zenpack - now what

I've added a couple of ZenPacks to a new Zenoss install but when I go to add a device to the ZenPack the dropdown box is empty.

Infrastructure -> Devices

Highliting a device

Selecting "Add to ZenPack..." from the bottom left menu.

The dialog opens "Add to Zen Pack" but the list is empty.

zenoss.x86_64                      4.2.0-1586.el6        @/zenoss-4.2.0.el6.x86_64
zenoss-core-zenpacks.x86_64        4.2.0-1586            @/zenoss-core-zenpacks-4.2.0.el6.x86_64

CentOS 6

Linux zenoss.domain.com 2.6.32-279.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Jun 22 12:19:21 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Thanks for the help.

Not sure what you are trying to do, Steve?  You don't need to add any extra ZenPacks to get started with Zenoss - it already includes lots of base functionality (ZenPacks are ways of adding on EXTRA functionality for specific devices, protocols, applications).

Try adding on a few devices, especially some that support SNMP - that should get you better mileage.

    Cheers,

Re: Installed zenpack - now what

If you have the HP Procurve ZenPack successfully installed then presumably you have already added a device class /Devices/Network/Switch/HP  as per the instructions at docs/DOC-3486 ?

If they are not already under that device class, try moving a sample switch to /Devices/Network/Switch/HP (simply drag and drop from the GUI).  I think you will find that this device class has extra performance templates associated with it that are specific to ProCurve switches.  If that's the case, when you have moved your device then you may see an extra entry in the lefthand menu for the device under monitoring templates.

If not, then you may need to bind the new performance template yourself (some developers provide a device class with their ZenPack and automatically bind their template, others don't - sorry I haven't used this ZenPack myself so don't know).  If the template isn't bound then I would bind it to your /Devices/Network/Switch/HP device class - select the class and click the DETAILS link at the top of the lefthand menu.  Then use the Action icon (gear icon) at the bottom of the lefthand menu to "Bind Templates". Pick the ProCurve template off the dropdown list.  If you bind the template to the CLASS then every device in the class can automatically inherit that configuration.  Make sure you don't accidentally delete any templates that are already bound.

Once you have this, the Graphs lefthand menu for a device should show you the new data.  Note that most templates sample data every 5 minutes and it would be typical to wait 2 cycles before you start seeing values.

    Cheers,

    Jane
